Hello Everyone! Here is the weekly update on the status of Quelab 3.0 at 1511 Central NE.
CURRENT STATUS
INSURANCE: We still have several agencies working on obtaining. A possible semi solution may be available shortly.
ELECTRICAL: Progress continues in that the electricians have mostly finished the installation/replacement of overloaded and outdated circuit boxes. This week they should be repowering the entire upstairs which was disconnected to replace the panels.
HVAC: Continues to be a code and interpretation issue. The new changes and lack of certified inspectors creates a problem. The LLC and architect have segregated the first floor “maze” (central rooms which can be offices) from the rest of the building to reduce the complications. This looks like it may be a successful option.
SECURITY: Adam Ivey is continuing to replace and rebuild the low voltage system. All the doors are access coded and most have magnetic locks activated. The fire alarm system which we have to have completely operational is starting to come together.
CONSTRUCTION: Not a lot of construction was accomplished last week because the emphasis was on clearing the pods to reduce the monthly costs and reorganizing to sort out stuff. Now that the north “upper” parking lot has been cleaned up it will be reorganized to allow other areas to be cleaned up. Emphasis this week will be to complete all the dry wall work.
OVERCROWDING: Emphasis is being placed on de-cluttering the various rooms so that a committee can go through and determine what needs to be kept and what can be gotten rid of immediately.
FINANCES: Quelab is able to meet its' requirements, but some items are being postponed until more important issues are completed. The welding storage room is being set up and a roll up door has been ordered but the work will not be completed until finances improve.
PROJECTIONS
We still cannot make a projection as to full opening of Quelab because of the insurance and HVAC issues. We are working these issues as aggressively as possible.
The ventilation issue for the laser cutter has not been solved. yet We still expect to have the laser cutter open with controlled access shortly. When we do it will be available for member use under very controlled circumstances.
This week the emphasis will be on finishing the drywall work and starting major de-cluttering and reorganization.
For security, insurance and access issues, the board will be enforcing our by-laws requirement to have a current photo (not avatar), address, phone number and emergency contact on file. Everyone will also be required to annually SIGN a copy of our waiver. We will start documenting these within the next couple of weeks.
Depending on #1 above we hope to start orientations for stewards and existing members prior to Thanksgiving Day and for new members around the first of December.
If anyone has questions, I am available at any time via phone or email.
